The characteristic sound of Banská Štiavnica is the rattling of cars hurtling over cobblestones. It is said that during socialism when the cobbles in the centre were covered with asphalt, there was a suicide increase in the district. People felt even lonelier in the middle of Štiavnica Mountains, as they heard every nightly hoot of scops owls nesting in local cemeteries and surrounding woods. It is also said that in the past a glacier and a hailstorm were passing by the town, or rather, that inhabitants chased them away with the hellish noise of their secret weapon. It is also said that the life-long rhythm of every inhabitant of Štiavnica was determined by the knocking on a short wooden board, echoed throughout the valley. It is also said that a stream of water in adits under the town creates an ingenious symphony, conducted by Hades from Štefulov himself, and it could be said, in short, that it is a symphony of rot and ruination. Jakub Juhás, a local resident, permonik, regional writer and head of mappa label will tell us all this, but more likely something else, mainly the sounds of Banská Štiavnica during a walk through the town.
