The main feature of the exhibition is The Trophy (2009), which at the first glance resembles a classic hunting trophy - until the moment, when we realize that the majesty of the animal is completely lost. Its form is flattened, stripped of both volume and grandeur. All that remains is an empty shell - ironic reminder of what was perceived as triumph.
Kvetan works with the principle contrary to the sculptural moulding: instead of adding the substance he takes it away. This “negative” process is not just technical - it becomes a significant gesture. The work thematizes not only the power and dominance of man over nature, but the questions of value, identity and extinction as well.
In the world, where taxidermy of animals is a frequent part of art, Kvetan comes up with quiet, but forceful intervention - one that exposes more than exhibits.
The exhibition features other works by the artist that elaborate on his core topics and bring new layers of meaning, of material contrasts and questions that remain unanswered to the space of exhibition.
